Qualifications:
• 5 years’ experience as lathe operator in job shop position.
• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Must have own hand tools required for position.
• Must be able to read blueprints, grind tool bits, make own set-ups and use precision instruments.
• Must be physically able to:
o Lift 50 lbs.
o Work 4–5-hour periods with 10 minutes break.
o Be able to work in areas requiring bending, stooping, turning, twisting, etc.
Primary Duties:
• Must read and interpret detailed blueprints.
• Must have the ability and experience to perform highly diversified work in machining a wide variety of various-sized castings, burnouts, bar stock and fabricated parts, with a minimum of supervision using complicated drawings.
• Hold tolerances as required by drawings
• Make difficult set-ups requiring extensive blocking and aligning of irregular-shaped parts.
• Select feeds and speeds.
• Devise tooling for varying materials and conditions
• Determine operation sequences, fit weldments, pre-heat weld, post-heat, straighten, bend, bow, and burn as required by the blueprints.
Secondary Duties:
• Maintain machine, i.e., keep machine clean, check and fill fluid levels as needed, keep tooling organized and ready to use.
• Clean area around machine.
• Perform miscellaneous tasks assigned by supervisor.
• Instruct or train new operators.
Rate: Starting rate will depend upon individual’s qualifications.
